Tenkuu no Escaflowne, also known as Vision of Escaflowne in North America, was released as an anime tv series in 1996. It became one of the most popular, and successful series of that particular year. With a soundtrack that's sure to be a feast for your ears (by world reknowned composer, Yoko Kanno), and much-talked about character design (Nobuteru Yuuki), this anime is both pleasing to the eyes and ears. This Japanese-animated series brings a unique blend of both cel and digital graphics.

The story of Escaflowne revolves around a high school teenager who leads a seemingly normal life, a boy king who lives a not-so normal life, a cat-girl who's anything but normal, a noble knight, a princess.. a mole man... and well..... you'll have to see the rest to appreciate ;)

The story begins when 15 year old Hitomi Kanzaki asks her high school crush to give her first kiss, if she beats the sprint record. When she finally runs at the track, a flash of light sends her to a world where the Moon and the Earth can be seen hanging in the sky.

The movie however, is a little more different. It is aimed towards a male audience, and has a darker theme, the animation is excellent, so the fans who've come to love the series for its art will certainly have something to feast on. We recommend watching both.
